Me: Ok, so I’m gonna need 5 days off for the surgery instead of the 3 that we talked about before. Here’s a doctor’s note that you requested that I get if I needed the extension.
VP: 5? That’s not what we discussed before. Why do you need the extra 2 days for?
Me: Because I need to go back for post-op checkup on the 4th and 5th day.
VP: But that’s not what we discussed. I told you 3 days, not 5.
Me: I know, and that’s why I brought that doctor’s note like you asked, since there’s been a changed on the agreed dates.
VP: You know, most people only need 3 or 4 days of rest, and they come in for work the rest of the days.
Me: Ok, fine. Since my appointments are after noon, I’ll come to school and stay until 12pm.
VP: But I’m not talking about you coming in for work those 2 days. I’m talking about why you need the extra 2 days off from work. Usually, people only need 3 or 4 days…
And this went on like this for another 10 minutes…
Some back-story and explanation; I’m getting laser eye surgery on June 29th, which is a Monday. I initially asked for 5 days, but the VP said he’s only going to give me 3 days and if I need more days off, I need to bring in a doctor’s note for any extensions. I said fine, since the students will be taking finals that week and I won’t be doing anything anyway, so I can still rest in school. After my initial examination, the doctor told me that I’m going to need 3 days of rest, and come back on 4th and 5th day for post-op treatments. I asked the doctor for a letter explaining the situation for the VP and I handed in the letter today, which resulted in the dialogue above.
When he first asked me why I need 2 days for post-op, I explain to him in detail (and repeatedly afterwards), that the first day is to take out the special protective contacts, and the second is to examine how my eye heals up after the lenses are removed. He keeps on complaining to me about why I can’t do both at the same time, but I’m not the one who makes up the rules, so I don’t know what he keeps on complaining to me about.
